Is love really all that great?

I think i am scared of falling in love, if love is even real, because what if it turns out to be some average mediocre thing? i would be so disappointed because of all the hype love gets. and also, how the heck do i know the difference between love and liking somebody? i am cynical about love.. your thoughts would be appreciated, thanks
