Huitzilopochtli was the god of war and sun. REligion was important to the Aztecs, it was incorporated in their cities. They were called the people of the sun because hte sun was the most powerful thing to them. it brought warmth and energy allowing things to grow. It would win over the night during the day. The legend of Huizilophochtil goes as follows, his mom got pregnanted in a dishonorable way. his older sister was g2 kill his mom and he found out so he came out of the womb fully grown and then tossed his sister's head into the sky, where it became the moon, so that his mother would be comforted in seeing her daughter in the sky every night.
